It's a hard knock life for Silver Jones growing up in Harlem. She receives a firsthand street education from two teachers. First her mother, Jessica, who makes a living as a prostitute and later becomes a drug addict. Then her boyfriend, Chance, one of the biggest drug dealers Harlem has to offer. Silver later uses this knowledge not only to survive but to also save the life of the last person she truly loves. Treasure E. Blue gives a knockout performance in his debut novel, Harlem Girl Lost. It's a no hold bars read. It is not only entertaining but also educates curious minds about the deadly game of drugs and prostitution.
Title: V.A.M.P. (Vampire Annihilation Methods Project) Author: Christopher Caldwell Category: Fiction, Supernatural Reviewed by: Tobias A. Fox
I finished reading V.A.M.P. (Vampire Annihilation Methods Project) and all I can say is WOW! What a ride! V.A.M.P. definitely sits up there with the movie-trilogy Blade, starring Wesley Snipes. The author, Christopher Caldwell, has definitely taken vampires to another level. This supernatural, action packed thriller kept me on the edge of my seat. Along with your villains, the blood sucking, night crawlers, was a compelling love story of how people would go far and beyond to save the lives of those they truly care for. There were no heroes, just a group of well-trained soldiers with one objective: Kill as many vampires before they wipe out the entire human race. I give V.A.M.P. two thumbs up!
Title: Bliss Author: Fiona Zedde Category: Fiction, Romance Reviewed by: Terry W. Benjamin
Women loving women may be a new mainstream genre. Bliss, a novel by Fiona Zedde gets the positive critical attention that it deserves. Zedde's first fiction effort features Bliss Sinclair, a New York publishing executive that is looking for love in all the wrong places. After dumping her boyfriend and in turn being seduced and abandoned by Regina Velasquez, a lesbian player into sex but not into long-term relationships, Sinclair travels to her birthplace, Jamaica, in hopes of restoring her emotional balance. Love enters Sinclair's life in the sexy person of Hunter Willoughy, a Jamaican woman who is all about loving women. This erotic, but not pornographic, novel is well written and filled with passion and culture, telling a compelling story of self-discovery in an exotic locale.

Title: Getting Hers: A Tale of Revenge Author: Donna Hill Category: Fiction, Thriller Reviewed by: Terry W. Benjamin
Essence and Blackboard bestselling author Donna Hill continues to amaze me with her latest novel, Getting Hers: A Tale of Revenge. This is Hill's 24th novel in a career that began in 1990 with her debut novel, Rooms of the Heart. From short stories in Black confession magazines to romance novels and mainstream novels, Hill enters the thriller sweepstakes with her latest that involves three women, Tess McDonald, Nikki Perez, and Kim Shepperd, who find themselves trapped in a New York City elevator during a black out. In the dark the ladies share What If... stories about those who wronged them and how they would like to get revenge. They make a pact to avenge each other's wrongs, and then the dead bodies begin to pile up. Hill keeps the action moving at a fast pace and even leaves open the possibility of a sequel. With Getting Hers: A Tale of Revenge, the Queen of Romance has joined the ranks of James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell and has made herself the Queen of the Urban Suspense Thriller. |
